Hypertech Programmer or Jet Chip?

I am looking to boost the performance of my 2000 3.8 on a very restricted budget. I have read about both products and have looked at the HP Tuner program and that one is just too expensive for me. So which is better, Hypertech or Jet? Thanks for the help.

I've never dealt with JET, but I can tell you HPP3 is a piece a shit... at least from my experience w/an LS1

The HPP3 is nice though for adjusting shift points, fan temps, tire sizes ... just the powertune (which is a big part of the price) is crap... lean it out, smooth timing curve... copy low octane tables to high octane spark tables... and that's about it

Sure you can do the mail in tuning, but if you just want something you can do yourself (though limitedly) just go for the HPP3. I dunno about the LS1, but it works ok for the 3800, better throttle response. Its actually more helpful with changing stuff, like gears (up to 3.42), shift points, -firmness, ect... The jet is a piece of shit, dont even look at it.

all depends on who you talk to, both do the same thing, and neither is going to have a huge gain

Jet and HPP are both crap. If you can't afford a tuner to do it yourself, just get a mail order tune from TSP. You couldn't pay me to put that HPP crap on my car.

If you have never had any experience with either, please shut the hell up, you are of no help.

Whatever happened to word of mouth? A product's reputation counts just as much as its functionality. Just because I haven't thrown my money away on some product doesn't mean I don't know about it. I have read about it from enough people who have purchased it to know it's no good.

the thing with those tuners is people read the claims of 50 hp or whatever and get 5 and theink they got taken, they have their place are they an alternative to a tune well not really unless you just want a little more than stock or just want speedo calibration, just like anything else to get more you pay more

I wasnt really talkin directly to you, but people get their hopes up about the hpp3 thinkin its gonna give sooo much, then it doesnt and they think it sucks. Im happy with my 6-7 extra rwhp. Its ok for the bolton guys, not everyone wants to spend $500 on hptuners or DHP, nor does everyone have the expertice to tune themselves. I will admit, the mail in tune is a good deal, but i have a warranty on my car and whenever they hook it up to a diagnostic computer if anything goes wrong, they will probably see the nonstock tune and void my warranty, so i need a way to turn my car back to stock tune. Like i said though, the hpp3 is very good for changing other things other than the tune of the car.
