    The "True" Ram Air Mod

Ok so I've done the write up for the ram air mod already back in November and I drastically lowered the intake air temps at speed but I wanted more. Something that was actually functional at shoving air into the intake at speed. So this is what I did:

First I took the ram air mod a step further by opening the bottom of the air box with a dremel about half an inch.

I then proceeded to open a hole to the passenger side of the hood latch about the same gap. Front and back.

True ram air. Comes right into the holes between the hood and bumper, through the hood, into the air box. I still need to paint the cut lines and clean them up, and run some vacuum hose cut in half to make it look "pretty", but you guys get the idea.

So how does this "ram air" past the air filter in to the intake?

You do realize the motor draws air via vacuum right?

I did the exact same thing to my hood years ago when I first bought my Firebird. However you did a much nicer job at cutting straight line, mine are crooked as shit. I also added a few plastic washers to raise the intake mount higher in the air, but it can only go so high because it holds the radiator also.

And to "ram" is essentially to try to compress the air... Which you cannot do unless you happen to be going the speed of sound.

Clearly its not "ramming" more air down the engines throat. Blame pontiac for coining that term if you all hate it so much. But this mod probably still makes airflow better than stock.... which is what its all about right? Or else people wouldnt spend hundreds of dollars on air intake modifications,

Essentially yes, I understand its not ramming air into the engine. But intake temps have dropped even further.

IIRC, you could do this alot cleaner looking by getting the base (upper rad support) from a V8, I swear I saw a picture of the 2 side by side and that it was a taller opening so you wouldn't have to cut it up like that, then at least for structural support of the latch, I would of just cut just to the passenger side of the hook and removed all that section then get a new "end" piece welded right there to maintain structural support for the latch.

I remember when I was 16 and my retard of a step dad pretty much said the ram air was almost equivalent to supercharged.
