    Fuel Pump Replacement

    I have a 1997 Firebird 3.8L v6 with a failing fuel pump.

It primes at 18psi and runs at 22psi. I'm doing the trap door method. Here's a picture I found online after he cut the hole.

Do I need to replace the fuel pump assembly or can I just replace the fuel pump?

Any recommendations on a brand too? I'd like to order it tonight so I can get it by this weekend!

    Thanks

If you cant afford to do it right the first time. Can you afford to do it a second time????

You don't need the whole assembly unless the stock one is rusted beyond use. Just buy an aftermarket walboro and get the wire kit.

I run a Racetronix kit, and it's doing pretty damn good. So far injector duty is at like 18% WOT.

That has absolutely no effect on your injector duty cycle... Your pump has to run through the FPS and your ECM controls the fuel that runs into the injectors. You're going to limit your injectors long long before you max out that pump.

As a side note, the Racetronix kit is just a "branded" Walbro pump. It does an excellent job. I had one in all 3 of my F bodys

I got the walbro 255, dont remember who I bought it from. But the rubber hose it came with was too short and came loose a couple weeks ago (probably my fault for not seeing this and swapping it before i installed it all the way, but whatever). Luckily I did the trap door method so it was easy to replace with a longer one.
