    Piecing together an exhaust

As yall know I have a WS6 "s-pipe back" and Im looking to switch it up. The guy that welded it told me he knew how to weld but didnt, so the welds are shit, it hangs too low, and there are some holes in a few of the welds, which makes the exhaust not sound like it should. Right now it goes: headers, y-pipe, 3" cutout, 3" s-pipe, 2.75" the rest of the way.

So, Im wanting to switch to a 3" exhaust all the way and Im going to piece it together myself and get my friend (who really knows how to weld, went to school for it and his work is impressive). Im getting a 3" u-bend (4.5" radius), the Dynomax #53061 over-axle pipe, a 3" single in/out muffler (maybe spintech, magnaflow, or may find a borla), then a turn down.

What I dont know is what radius I need for the 45* bend that connects to the over-axle. Anyone have any idea? Im thinking it is a 4" radius, but Im not 100% sure. Any info would be awesome.

And Im doing it this way because I can piece together my exhaust for less than $200 this way, including muffler.

Why not just get the whole intermediate pipe from Dynomax also? It's the whole straight section with the up bend that meets up to the over axle. I tried to find it again on Summit quick but I only found the 2.75. I know they offered a 3" I pipe for under $60. I would suggest looking into a Borla XS sport. It's a cheaper alternative to the Race Borla mufflers and sound good.

^They used to offer the 3" i-pipe, but it is discontinued. That is the way I was originally going to do it, but by the time I got around to it I couldnt find it anywhere. I used to have the part # off someone's write-up, but I cant remember whose it was...

There's a 3" mandrel exhaust pipe kit that summit sells, I'll try to find it. Chances are it'll be cheaper to buy the pre-bent stuff than piece it all together, trying to remember who had the setup I'm thinking of though, 13secV6 maybe?

Found the over-axle pipe, still hunting for the I-pipe

That was the over-axle I was talking about in my OP. lol. And you may be right that it was 13secv6's writeup that had all the part #'s, but like I said, pretty sure that I-pipe got discontinued.

My only thing about buy that I-pipe is I can get a 45* bend for half the price. My current s-pipe exhaust a ways back to where I think the 45* posted below will work. Now Im thinking I may just use my current s-pipe (its a 3" u-bend) and clean up the welds. Itll save me $30, and from what I can tell the Flowmaster I-pipe is just a 45* bend.

Here is the 45* bend Im looking at:

edit- and what do yall think about doing a turn down right on the muffler? Like no 90* turn off it or anything, just a turndown right on the muffler, probably pointed towards the rear of the car.

Yeah, but my thing is most people put a 90* turn on the muffler THEN a turn down more towards the rear bumper. Im thinking about putting a turndown directly on the muffler.

Aight, Im skipping the over-axle and the I-pipe and getting 2 90* bends and 1 60* pipe. I noticed that the SLP exhaust is essentially just that, and it will save $50 for the piping alone. So the total for piping will be $87 ($47shipped for the 2 90* bends and $40 shipped for the 60* bend). Then Im kinda looking at getting a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler like Warshrike did, just a single in/out muffler. The total for the exhaust is going to be probably right around $130shipped. Ill just get the exhaust shop to make a turndown, usually they will do that kinda stuff if you just tip the guy there like $10.

I have heard many great things about super turbos and our cars. How do turndowns effect sound? i might be interested in that.

Turndowns are mostly for show, they will change the sound some because the sound will bounce off the area under the car, which will act as a kinda resonator. It will probably be a little louder in the car.
