If you're going stock, I'd say get a cloyes timing set (gears, chain, tensioner, cloyes makes good stuff). Then a paper timing cover gasket, and I'd also replace the crank seal. You'll need a new cam bolt since it's TTY (the balancer bolt is also TTY, but I've heard of people re-using them).

I know this may be a seemingly stupid question, but can we use the 4.3 timing chain? I saw a double roller Cloyes timing chain set at O'Riellys for like $65 or something ridiculously cheap, but it was for a 4.3 and also for a SBC. Didnt see a 3.8 set though.

As far as double rollers go, the current JP set and Rollmaster set both use the same piece of crap chain, best thing to do is buy the cheaper JP set, toss the chain, and buy a Cloyes DR chain for a t-type or GN. There's a thread around somewhere I made a while back with a p/n in it, too lazy to find it. You also sometimes need to work the crank sprocket a bit to make it sit flush, but even then that's not a consistent thing for some reason.
