    help 3.4 misfire

my friend has a 3.4 1995 camaro it has a misfire that is horrible in low rpms especially under load it has between 100 and 120 psi of compression on all cylinders all the injectors are clicking when listening to them. it has new plugs and wires and spark to each cylinder the plugs are turning black already so it is running rich and the #4 cyinder is by far the worst it was wet when i pulled it #3 and #5 both look like they are running about right all the other ones are running rich

any ideas i am lost oh and the check engine light does not come on and my code reader says error when trying to pull codes

The 95 3.4 has an ODB-II diagnostic port but an ODB-I PCM. You can check it for codes but you need a full scanner, not just a code reader, because it has to support both formats and the year-make-model has to be input manually.

That compression seems low, although if all are the same maybe its the gauge.

Have you tried replacing any of the coils? #1/4 are on one coil, 2/5 and 3/6.

You could have a weak coil, it would be affecting both cylinders 1 and 4. Try swapping two around and see if your worst cylinder changes.

They might not be getting a strong enought spark to burn all the fuel, and 02s are still possible.

I had the same issue as you with my 95 3.4L Camaro, I replaced the ICM and all the coils and the Car runs perfect now. I can guarantee your problem is either Coils or ICM.

TKO is right! I bought a new coil pack and ICM, and my car runs perfect with no misfires or bad idle etc. My car honestly runs and feels like brand new after changing those parts, and it was easy to change those parts as well.

Compression readings sound very low. Was the throttle plate fully opened when you did the test? I would test each coil with an ohm meter first before replacing them. Also do the same for the oxygen sensors. I just had a problem similar to yours, car was running rich and it was one of the oxygen sensors that went bad.

Yes, definitely 3.4/3.8 are the same, and I believe all of the GM 2-post DIS coils are.
