That Epic, he's got some quick turnaround. Welcome to the party, boys.

Let me ask you this - is the 4.2 very dissimilar from the old 4.0 from the early Explorer/Ranger days?

What about the top end? Similar to mustang or did it get it's own heads, intakes and accessories? Oh and one more thing - what transmissions mate to it?

I ask because I have a ninety deuce Explorer v6/5speed with 280k all original.

I think?? the heads from a 99-04 mustang are the same as on the 4.2

The intake manifold is different on the 00'+ 4.2 to help with torque

    transmissions--5spd = M50D auto = 4r70W ?? (not sure ive got a 5spd)

** the ford windstar also shares this motor with some differences (intake)

Interesting. The General was putting 3800 SII into TransSport (minivan) until they introduced it to demise. It is still in the Lucerne though, as a SIII.

So my buddy wasn't pulling my leg about stroking the 3.8 in his minivan. Now I gotta go help him finish it, sleeper van ftw

Yeah, stroking the 3.8 unleashes a good amount of power to the 3.8. Google "TT V6 Mustang". The guy has a RPM Motorsports built 3.8, stroked to a 4.2, bored over to a 4.3. lol He is making just about 611 RWHP on 100 octane, but can't remember the amount of boost. Gives us 4.2 guys some hope as to a decently fast truck.
