    freeze on ship repairs...

I read in the Navy Times today that the several million dollar funding for Naval Ship repair has froze for undiclosed reasons and for an undisclosed period of time. Anybody heard anything about this? Any other branches suffering a freeze of funding from the government?

oh it definitely is. advancement/promotions in the navy has gone way down, as have reenlistment bonuses. If it keeps up this way, more and more people will get kicked out for high year tenure. I'm sure it's the same across the board.

When I got this base in May of 07, we had 16 team chiefs to run pretty much all 3 man teams. 6 Months ago we had 4 team chiefs, I think now we have 9. And our workload has increased exponentially. We used to just do normal maintenance stuff. Now we are replacing old batteries (we have about another 150, swapping 6 can easily be a 16 hour day), adding a new security system (one just failed catastrophically requiring teams working 24 hours a day for 4 days to fix, almost lost a team chief), not to mention the other shops swapping out boosters, adding a new ECS, and updating the PSRE. And to add to it all, due to recent events in the news, we are under extremely increased scrutiny. So far, my shop NCOIC, Flight Captain, and group commander have been fired.

Its been that way for awhile. I think it might be possible to get in with a GED if your ASVAB score is like a 97 though lol

It should have been that way from the beginning. Half the people on the ship that I was on fell under those categories, which is why that ship was full of fail.
