    stock category....what mods??

Despite my promises to keep my new Z28 stock, I can't abide by the eyewatering boredom of driving a stockish car. Instead of pouring tens of thousands of dollars into a directionless street rod, I'm going to build a very low budget, SCCA stock autox car. As I get better at driving, I'll mod the car up to a new class.

Help me interpret the SCCA rules for a stock car: starting on page 63 (pg 78 of the PDF file)
    http://www.scca.org/_FileLibrary/File/2007SoloRules.pdf
    bodywork: none needed.

Tires: anything with measureable tread as per section H. I'm thinking about some Kumho v700s, 265/45/16

wheels: stock wheels will be used.

shocks: basically must be bolt in shocks. I'll prolly get some Biltstien HD's, unless someone knows of some better shocks.

brakes: must be stockish brakes. Hawk pads and new rotors maybe?

Sway bar: I can only change the front swaybar. I'll go for a strano 35mm front bar.

Suspension (pg 83 of PDF): THis section confuses me. Am I allowed to put in new LCA's, PHR, torque arm, etc....? Am I allowed to lower the car? Can I do a body mounted torque arm?

    Electrical: no mods needed

ENgine and drivetrain: I have a CAI. Is that allowed? I also have a catback. Am I to understand that I may not install LT headers? I have aftermarket diffy and gears outback. I guess I'll just keep that quiet. I'm NOT going back to stock.

What do you think about V700 tires? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=1
They have tread and they fit on stock wheels.

I don't have a stock airbox, so I can't go back to stock. I don't think anyone will throw a fit about a busted up moroso CAI. I'll see when I go out.

yeah cai shouldn't be a big deal esp since it's not like you're at nationals or anything. just remember the victoracers have to be shaved.

Looks like the rules have been covered very well so far. You will find that interpreting the rules will be harder than driving the car in most cases. Some recommendations though. For shocks I would highly recommend spending the money on Koni's, they will allow you to grow as you move up through the classes where the bilsteins will become a weak point. Also don't get a tunnel mounted torque arm, it will cause you to have some major trouble with brake induced wheel hop. The best options are the UMI full length crossmember mounted arm and the Unbalanced Engineering decoupling arm (if you have the money and time to set up the UE arm it is the best). I don't think either one is allowed until SM though. Start posting over on frrax and talk to Strano, that should keep you on track. Good luck with the car.

Do you know how to shave tires? Can I just do a big burnout when I get them, or is there a little more to the shaving process?

ALso, what is this talk about ESP class? I want to stay in stock. ESP class looks like more fun, but I don't want to buy that many mods right now. Maybe next year.

there is more to it. I don't know where you'd get it done, but some one on frrax would know.

Yeah, I'll have to look into it. My first mod is gonna be fixed AC. Then I'll look into some super duper shocks. I want the best top of the line shocks available. What do you recomend? Maybe for xmas I'll get some V700's. I wanna be ready to race for next season.

I'm taking my wife to an event on the 23rd. She is interested in it. We are gonna race her C5. My camaro would be an embarrassment in it's current form.

Long story. That poor car is going to spend the rest of it's life going in a straight line. I'm building an autox car from scratch now.

I think those 265s are a little wide for an 8 inch rim unless they run narrow. A 265 isn't going to gain anything over a solid 245 anyway.

Regarding the other mods, Tpunk hit it right off with the Koni shocks. 35mm bar is a great idea too. The differential and gears as well as the CAI put you out of stock category though. CAI could be changed back, but you already said you wouldn't do the gears and differential anyway.

Don't worry it's with going to another member on this site. Dan (Usd2sing) will do a good job with it.
