Finally Joined SCCA - Couple Questions

so like the title says..i finally joined..i plan on running at a few solo comps held at a local community college here..but what i REALLY want to do is run the car on the full track at Lime Rock during one of their test & tune days..i have 3 questions about that..

    1) is nitrous use legal? (im assuming not)
    2) are there any mods that i NEED to have done to my car? (besides what i already have)
    3) does one car run at a time or are there multiple cars on the track at the same time (i don't want to make any contact)

    ..thanks!

On track days, multiple cars on track. But that depends on the venue, and officials. If you're running SCCA solo time attacks, it will be spaced out for safety and other things.

    Needed mods, good tires.

You don't want to get knocked up...into a different class where you're not competitive, choose your mods wisely w/ the suspension and braking being key.

Why would you run nitrous in a SCCA event? How would that even help you?

i wouldnt want to run nitrous at SCCA solo events..but im thinking it would help me at Lime Rock..getting back up to speed after corners and what not

see im also wondering if i have a car "worthy" of running there..my car probably wouldnt see much over 100 mph if that..especially if i cant use the juice..and if im gonna be with the rest of the pack of cars..im gonna be a slow poke holding up a bunch of hardcore road racers..and i dont want it to be like that..i dunno..what are your guys thoughts on that?

All your questions can be answered by actually going to a track day and talking to people there. Or just attending a local SCCA meeting and finding someone who runs track days.

There are different kinds of track days, too. Some are designed for guys with street cars, others are strictly for people who have SCCA legal road race cars, which involves specific safety equipment like a (serious) roll cage. All have multiple cars on track. The first usually has restricted "passing zones" generally on straights. The second assumes people are professional and not racing each other.

Personally, if you're using nitrous, you're going to be playing with fire.

At the end of the S/F line at Limerock, your brakes will be begging for mercy if you don't conserve them. If you overcook there, the brakes will be useless untill the next lap or two. From what I've heard, they added a minor chicane on the backside after the hill? You'll want those brakes as well for emergency situations or you'll be placing others in harms way too.

And Limerock is a narrow track so passing can be a challenge, but hold your line and be courteous on the straights for those that are faster and need the pass.
