Signs of a transmission going out?

Nope, not mine but I was wondering if anyone had any experiences they would like to share to inform other members that they may have a problem on their hands. Post up and inform the world!

If you got a rebuild, include what was done and the prices for it, general time that it took, and any other observations you may have. It'll help others know if they're getting taken for a ride when they get a quote!

if its going bad, it will either slip while accelerating through a gear, or slip on a shift. It wont go at all in gear, will on go in some gears.

My rebuild was a total gutting. Took everything out, replaced everything with new parts and when i could stronger parts. I spent about 700 bucks on parts, and labor was free from a friend who builds them.

a competent shop should be able to build one in a day. Pull it take it apart, re build and install in a day

When mine went out, I had no 3rd gear. Also, when slowing down, like around a corner, and accelerating again, it would go into OD right away.

Some signs of worn clutch bands are if you manually put your car into gear and it slips real bad, but it alright in D.

what would a slip sound like..? whenever i get up to around 45 in my car i hear this pulsing noise that i can hear now because of the exhaust, sounds like the motor is revving a lil bit..

I dont think slipping has a noise, but trust me, you will know if your trans slips, because about the time you go "what the fuck is going on" it will finaly shift.

Another sign- Your trans alwayse shifts best right before it goes out, usualy. I barked second for the first time a while ago and it scared the shit out of me because I thought it was done. I haven't found out yet but it is a possibility.

i had no warning. I left a light and the crosswalk paint made my tires spin just a bit and i caught traction and SNAP** Stupid car. Drove fine for 60-70 yards then the RPM's started acting up and i put it in 3rd and it was fine. Then i get to the next light and it just wouldn't go anymore. Just sat and revved at me. Now i'm trying to find a tranny.
