2000 firebird MAF screen removal
what will happen if i remove the honeycomb piece from the front of the intake? or should i leave that alone?

That is your maf screen. Go ahead, I did it on my 2000 camaro and it still worked just fine. It's to smoothen out airflow right before the maf, but since you have a 2000, you have a straight throttle body, so it doesnt really matter if you have it anyways. You MAY notice a tiny little gain, but more than likely its just more crap out of the way of the intake.

I did it on my 02, has a tiny bit rougher idle at startup, but once warmed up its fine. Couldn't really notice much, mabye gained .5hp. Sounded a little different as well.

IMO the only difference you will feel is a placebo difference. But every little bit helps.

Ah yes, the MAF screen... some people think removing it helps, others see no gain. You can try removing it, but like the other posters have said, you won't see big gains (if any).

Yeah, I removed mine. No problems, but I wouldn't waste time to do it again. Like bob said, placebo difference.

I think the removal O' mine is actually kickin' my fuel milage in the nutts. Anybody else concur?

i did mine, but only after PnP the LIM, and i have to say that the car ran smoother. not sure if its any faster, but smoother for sure. i also cut out the metal support. its bee 60k miles and no problems. not sure if your MAF is the same as mine.

This seems familour. Yep been there done this. It is a waste to remove the screen unless there are supporting mods that already increases the airflow, basically like BobsSilverSix said every little bit counts/helps. But really no noticable difference, and I am leaning to almost agreeing with RevoultionDay1 about the fuel mileage issue. I would test this but my motor is shot. Also I never noticed a difference in sound, idle, and performance wiht mine, and I have a 96 so that means the angled TB. The ONLY THING THAT I NOTICED WAS THE INCREASE IN SOUND FROM THE TB, but that was a minimum notice. Ohwell.

i have personally seen a lean condition arise after the screen removal on my tahoe, vette and also the maro... they all carry screens in them now.
it can be retuned without the screen. but why??
little 3.4 or 3.8 is gonna draw enough to quantify it not being in there...
hahahaha ported tb..hahaha...tornado..hahahaha
EDIT: how many extra cfm's did the porting get ya....hahaha

unfortunately u ported the tb, no gains from it in the 3.4 or 3.8 unless you go FI, and even then the bene's are min. if the the bandaid of the tornado works then do it up. but my personal opinion, for what its worth, is to find another tb.
i have a set of spare upper and lower intakes with tb w/ screen if u need them, but thier drive by wire. so that might be out of the ???,
another option would be to find a maf from a 5.3 or ls truck or maybe even a deisel truck, trim it to fit inside yours, depending how much u hogged it out. or fold/bend/wrap it around the front of yours then slide your hose/coupler over it and clamp the heck out of it....

good point....it counts..BIG TIME, i luv the stuff...but the base breathing capabilities is where it all starts. in fact since he hogged out the tb it would change the jetting requirements from a stock setting. i learn this with our car when we put on the pNp upper and lower intakes and pNp heads.
originally jetted for a 75w shot stock, but after it came out to only a 30...

2hrs on the dyno trying to figure out WTH happen to the spray.... the way it was explained to me last October by NX as stated in the email below:
"We base our system on stock cfm's and the amount of "draw" that the motor is capable of. changing the cfm capacity will throw our initial jetting requirements to the wind. Once you have made drastic changes like this you have to start all over. I would recommend trying the jetting from the v8 (lt/ls) cars and see where your at since you have basically more cfm's now in comparison to the v8's. Once you have a good base, I would recommend dropping the nitrous jet down one step for safetly reasons. Let me know if i can help in any way Dan, sounds like your on your way to a pretty hot little ride. Good luck, xxxx"
