    Cutout Sound

How do you guys think an L67 would sound with a cutout that was left open, preferably as high up as possible.

Would it crack? I hate that popping sound shitty exhaust systems make, would it just be to loud and obnoxious? or would the v6 aspect ruin it all togethor?

    $30 > $300, thats why I ask.

i have a 3 inch cutout right off the downpipe before the cat/offroad pipe. Its like even with the gtp door badge. It is very loud and my car sounds really mean with it open. I tend to leave it close as its difficult to get money races with it open.

forgot to mention since its a v6 it still sounds like a weedwacker on crack above 2500-3000 rpms.

Can you describe it some though? weedwacker on crack huh?

Does every1 know what I meen when I say that popping noise? the cracking sound some trucks make? I know it isnt going to be low and throaty but will it at least be one sound or just a series of pops? I know I probobly dont make much sense...

I have never noticed to much popping. Maybe a touch when the convertor is unlocked and you engine break down a bit.

Yeah weedwacker on crack its a technical term. Bascily it kinda sounds bad in my opinion. Its sound great at idle shakes everything around. but above 2500 it starts to get the v6 rasp that just well isn't a v8.

I guess Ill just do it and find out for myself, tips are to freaking expensive for these cars...

A cutout has the same benefits of a full exhaust right? kr reduction, power increase?

A cutout is bascily like running open headers. That is if its very close to the headers, but in most case other parts of the exhaust are considered restrictions so bypassing them frees up power. Thats the theory anyway. How much power is there to gain. I guess that depends on your setup.

its hard to make a L67 sound good ive only heard a few that sound good untill they get in the high rpms.. i had a 3" Dp no cat and above 2500 rpms it sounded raspy(like a ricer)..

what was the link to the exhaust sound site i never put it under my favorites i think there was a couple with cut outs.

Im not terribly concerned with how it sounds, just as long as it isnt really bad, this is performance first sound second, and if a cutout performs just as well if not better for a crap load cheaper then Ill deal with it.

    Here is what Im thinking,

    3" downpiper
3" summit cutout (as high up as I can get it and still have easy access)
    u-bend, res, and cat delete

and somewhere I will find some 2.25" tips and just put them on the stock mufflers.

if its just for performance do it u'll get a couple HP out of it... id say put it where the cat goes thats where i was gonna do one but never got around to it

Justin, it's going to sound like crap.

Mine sound more than awesome at idle (mean cam loping), but at anything above 1500, it sounded horrible.

I thought you liked yours? Im not sure what "crap" sounds like since it a matter of opinion, the only thing I dont want is that popping sound that a lot of the trucks around here make.
