If you don't enjoy it or support it, that's fine. But don't just call it an import pastime. IIRC, last years Formula D champ drove a new GTO. I've also seen pics and video of another American who has a very nice first gen Camaro who competes in Formula D.

I personally don't pay much attention to drifting, I prefer the drags. But to each their own....

i'm so sick of people saying that drifting originated in japan.

    ---------------------------NEWS FLASH--------------------------------

drifting originated on dirt roads in north carolina and virginia, and is still practiced on dirt tracks all over the united states.

    it's now called NASCAR.

Drifting is a high skill, high powered motor sport that calls for drivers to control a car while it slides sideways at high speeds through a marked course. It is similar to rally racing, but is done on a closed paved course. It is judged on execution and style rather than just who finishes the course the fastest, similar to skateboarding and freestyle motocross. The sport caters well to spectators and is exciting to watch.

2004 was the first year of the Formula Drift series- the first national drifting championship series in the United States. Drifting is a fast growing motor sport, with a growing fan base and many corporations vying to take advantage of the attention.

2005 was the first year for Drift-Caddy. Crowds, media, and judges alike accepted the team with much applause. Response is only expected to increase as the team gains experience.

ugh...People arent stupid guys. We all know what drifting is. But it's a load of crap because it is judge based. I've watched Formula D on G4. The damn jap judges always vote against the American competition, no matter how badass we are at thier 'new' sport. I dont care that it takes (alot of) skill, everything takes an amount of skill, but drifting isn't a sport guys. sorry. It's too subjective to be a sport, and it caters to ricers.<my main problem with it.

The first vid I saw of the V, I believe my exact words were "okay... and?"

But after watching our driver and really figuring out what all goes into it... geez, it freakin' rocks!

    (fyi, I just bought a 5spd because I enjoy driving a 5spd... really.. that's all. )

hey Path, I have a couple of friends that are obsessed with drifting, and I have been in the car while they were drifting (yeh, one of 'em is actually really good). It is pretty exciting and all, but i still dont see it as anything other than goofing off around a corner (with skill). (something we have done for over half a decade)...whoopty doo...

Road Racing is a real sport
Drag Racing is a real sport

Drift 'Racing' isn't racing at all.

Hmm lets see. subjective sports...since its olympic time I'll start there.
Figure skating: judged..subjective yet is the oldest winter olympic sport
Mongols: judged by speed and techincallity.. but an olympic sport
Snowboard Half-pipe: don't try and say it isn't a sport the blood says otherwise.
Ice Dancing: ok maybe not but still a subjective olympic sport

    Summer:
    Gymnastics: olympic sport
    Street Skate: olympic sport
    Most all X-Games...but I don't see anybody saying that isn't a sport
Super Bowl XL...need I say more on subjectivity...but my Steelers still wonits also the US #1 sport

and lastly Baseball: Wheres the strike zone with out a half drunk ump?... yet its americas favorite pastime....oh and a sport

theres a few I missed but I think I have made my point

Ok, good point Amagine. I will give ya that. I care little about this thread anymore. Fine, drifting IS a sport, but a ricer one at that (No, ya know what, I TAKE THAT BACK, DRIFTING IS FUCKING GAY, it's NOT A SPORT, BITCHES) . I still dont think it belongs in this forum, leave drifting up to the camarov6.com guys, besides, there is no fullthrottlev6.com anything in PathogenProductions anyways, just camarov6 bullshit. I see no reason why we should put drifting in here.
