1996 to 1997 pcm is a direct swap, just make sure you get a 1997 pcm with your manual or automatic and gear ratio. Reason you need to do this is because you can tune the 1997 pcm with Hptuners....
What T4 kit? Is it the eBay one?

It’s the panel where the window and lock switches are,should be black. Don’t need the window/lock switches just the panel that holds them.
How’s the front inner door sail panels , the front panels where the locks and door mechanism is. Also can you post pics of them?

Yeah, its simple plug and play , just plug a 97' pcm in and tune it with hptuners. To make it easier find a 97' pcm with the m5 already, then you can put your own tire/gear ratio you want with...
since your a 96' youll have to swap in a 97' pcm to use hptuners.
I'd check the #1 injector, ohm check it and maybe swap it with another injector. I had my engine rebuilt in 2002 and they put one of my old injectors in and thankfully it went in #1 cylinder and...

Looks good, never pulled it from the top before. Thats good info if I need to pull mine. Always did it from the bottom. Btw how do you post pics on here , would be good to know?
I would also upgrade your valve springs while the engine is out, with the VS cam, 105lb springs should hold you for awhile, or you could do 130 or 136 but you would need a double roller timing chain....
