i'm wanting to swap my v6 out for a 350 carb motor and i was wondering of course i'm going to rebuild the engine but if for one the engine would fit and for two if my standard tranny would bolt up to it. it will be awhile before i accomplish this mayb a year or so but i was wonderingif i could get this to fit and what all i would have to change to accomplish this feet.
thanks alot,
Marc (94 camaro)

The tranny would not bolt up to it. Two completly different bellhousings. But I think you could get a bellhousing off a 3rd gen 305 manual, and that will work. they are both SBC and manual, so I dont see why not. But you might need a new driveshaft. Might. Im not too sure on that part.

flywheels ... flywheels or flexplates might be an issue depending on whether the 350 is an early model 2 piece rear main seal or a late model..(mmm I think 84 is the border year for GM ..on SBC motors).. with a one piece rear main .. however you can purchase flywheels/flexplates with a dual bolt pattern that will work.. and then there is the starter.. it has to match the tooth count of the flywheel/flexplate your using .... and a fuel preasure regulator to get you down to 5-8 psi from the higher..(mmm the exact number escapes me) .. preassure of the stock pump for the newer fuel injected car ... did I miss anything?...it's late and the brain is shutting down....

Actually it was 87', but your carb psi is right. As for getting th epsi down. I know you could do a regulator, but those often are more trouble then there worth. I would research into seeing if you could do a carb pickup in the tank, and then either a mechanical fuel pump or an inline electric for carb use. For that the Holley red, and the holley blue will work. If I remember right, the only difference was one flowed mor gph.

The blue is listed as being 6 psi internally regulated.. the red is ussually sold with a seperate regulator...
as for the mechanical it just robs precious HP with evil parasitic drag*hiss*.. although I agree the blue pump is prolly the best bet .. and not a huge pricetag either.. I'm just cheap at heart .. why let the already wired and plumbed in tank stock pump go to waste?
oh yes and last post I neglected to mention the ignition problems... going from a stock DIS to a distributor motor ... looked at the clearance between that sweet little 3.4 and the windshield body ledge above it .. wanna guess how much fun it'll be to lever a distributor under.. I don't I'm chicken .. I got a 400 SBC sitting that I am scared to sandwich into a '93 or later Fbody.. anybody need one? ..*grin*.. could prolly be had for decent 3.4 parts and some cash ..j/k .. I like it where it is .. it keeps the shop floor from blowing away...

all joking aside considering it's not actually currently holding down my shop floor because I still owe the machine shop some money from having it punched 40 over, torqueplated, micropolished, align honed, decked to true flat, the crank journals micropolished, the rotating assembly balanced, new flexplate, new balancer, hyper coated pistrons, clevite bearings(rod, main, and cam), fresh HV oil pump w/ hardened driveshaft, a pair of #882 heads rebuilt for it.... plus the base cost of getting even a "rebuildable" 400 these days... well lets say I plan on keeping it around for when I get the guts to try shoehorning it in there... although I never turn down STUPID large amounts of cash
on the reality side if someone really had way too much money laying around and came out here with a '99 or newer 3.4 liter engine and a big fat roll of cash you could prolly drive home with the 400 ... mainly because the only thing scarier than trying to shoehorn an SBC into those tiny new car engine bays.. is gas prices
and although I started reading this BB out of curiosity it really has me curios just how much power and fuel economy I could actually squeze out of a 3.4 in a camaro... *shrugs*.. what can I say .. I'm mildly psychotic..obsessive compulsive.. and I love a real challenge
