8k sounds mabe a little high, but you are going to have to do much more to fit an LS1 into your car since yours is 'made' for an LT1. I believe you are gonna have to get some custom fabbed engine mounts AT LEAST. You should be able to pick up an engine+tranny for about 3k or so...It's the little odds and ends that end up costing you so much.

ball park range, maybe 6 grand? you can get engine w/ tranny's and every thing with it ( pull out motors ) for under 4 grand with around 70k-80k on them.
i am seriously considering it myself,my dad said he'd help with the whole thing. he was just disapointed how "slow" my car is. and he wants something to play with every-now and then ( mid-life crisis i think )
here's some sites. its alot of work

http://www.tacreationsusa.com/3_4_3_8_v6_to_ls1.htm
http://ls1swap.50megs.com/
maybe some one will come in with even more links. those one's will show you what are up against. very helpfull.

Alright well what was the strongest and most powerful LT1?
and what would that run...
because my Paint job on my car looks like JUNK.. I GOT RIPPED out of 1500 when I got it painted he did it then it just bubbled and fisheyed and then it peeled and cracked..
and I was just wondering if it is worth the money or should I just use some kinda money like that and build my car up.. my mom said something about dropping in a brand new V6 engine and I dont really wanna do that.. see I got some lifters tapping I think.. but If I had to put a new motor in I wouldnt want to go back to a V6 I want more power...
so its either paint or more power..
If I paint it.. I plan on painting it a Hugger Orange with the roof Black and the pieces behind the side windows black also.. maybe even paint the mirrors black.. so what do you think leave my car a black peeling ugly no real shine... or do some sort of performance stuff.. like New 1.8 roller rockers new lifters w/e is good a High Perforamcne Cam... a good intake and headers... and a LSD with 4.10's? or some stuff like that along those lines.. some serious upgrades..

save a little bit more and buy a used LS1 car. you won't regret it.
as far as the LT1 vs LS1 swap, there's almost no difference between how the two would fit. getting different motor mounts when you're that deep into an engine compartment is not a big deal at all. i'm not totally sure the mounts are different, anyway.

the car is in alright shape paint wise, it does show some reflection but NOT MUCH and it is cracking and it is bubbeling...
so what do you think new stuff for the motor? or what?

see, ive heard just the opposite about the ls1 in a lt1 car, vise versa... All i have heard is its just worth it to put the LT1 in the LT1 car and an LS1 in an LS1 car.
Honestly, for all its worth, just turbo/nitrous it.

my fault. i thought you wanted to go fast.
It would be a better idea to just get rid of the car and get an ls1 fbody

from your post i can ascertain that:
1. your paint sucks
2. you have possible internal engine damage
and you can't decide which to take care of. i say sell that thing while there's still paint on it, do the old saving routine, and buy yourself the V8 that you really want. you can paint a green car hugger orange but it won't look that great unless you plunk down some real loot. i'm talking about stripping it to the zinc/sealant inside and out, which is very labor intensive.
i can appreciate your position... when i was going through the same thing with my IROC i decided to sell it, not drive for a year or so (i was a freshman at college so i didn't need it anyway), play the saving game and THEN get what i really wanted, a 4th generation camaro.

well I dont think I have internal damage...
I do have some problems with my paint..
so out of the options which would you guys do... I dont think I can sell the car since my mom bought it for me.. and she wont let me sell it.. im not even 18 so I think maybe a V6 would be good..

Personally, why don't you just spring for an LT1 that has been made into a 383? I would be willing to bet they wouldn't be hard to find, and the transisition would be less of a PITA. Plus, a good 383 will put out over 400HP. (Lingenfelters put out about 440).
Course, if your dad is feeling spry, he might spring for this...

lol I have no father.. my mom raised me..
but that is alright You didnt know..
and I live in KY.. or I might would let you do it guy!
but on the other hand I might should be looking into making sure I have a good running car and at the same time I could probally get
LSD with 4:10s, umm my new lifters (whatever is good) roller rockers 1.8's or whatever is good.. umm I could probally get some head work done.. I could even get a cam and valve springs and retainers..
what would be some good stuff you guys would reccomend... parts wise.. no S/C no Nitrous and no Turbo.. but some big gain makers!

I say fix the paint and maybe do a cam/lifters/valve springs/pushrods/timing chain/tune. You will pick up some good power and have a nice looking ride. BTW why would you want to change your color black is the best:shrug:

I'd buy a barely used L36 engine, do a heads/cam with full exhaust setup. Also get it painted. That's just me. ;)
