if i had the money, of course i'd get the LS7... but realistically even an LS2 might be stretching it.. i;d probably end up getting an LS1
as for gas mileage.. the LS1 and L36 are nearly the same, the difference is the LS1 requires premium fuel so it costs more to fill up.. but i'm pretty sure they get almost the same mileage per gallon

What are your guys opinion on going from my 3.1 to a 3.8, I would probably supercharge or turbo the 3.8 and stick around with it for a few years, and just build it up. How much do you think I could do just a 3.8 swap for, just the engine and all the stuff I would need, I wouldnt turbo it till later.

I think the 3.8 swap is harder than an LT1 swap.
And doing all that work to a 3.8 just to keep for a few years is a huge waste of money to me. I would get an iron 6.0L block and supercharge that ;)

yeah, swapping to a 3.8 is a very difficult task! if you wanted to stay v6 but go big...you could go 4.3 but that's the same swap as going 350/LT1 except you still got a 6. if you want a pretty simple swap, a 3.4 will bolt in right in place of the 3.1.

Thanks,
are the LT1 and LS1 basically the same block? Would they be about the same to swap, any idea? How much better would a 3.4 be, and what makes the 3.8 so much harder? Does anybody know what the biggest block is I could fit w/o major modifications? And what would you guys do if you were gonna get a new engine, any kind, just what would you choose?

LT1 and LS1 are pretty different.
I can't remember why the 3.8 is harder, i think its because you have to change the k-member and stuff where the 3.4 would bolt right in.
You could probably get an aluminum head 3.4 in there with a decent cam and make 200rwhp.

The LT1 is externally the same as any other sbc, it will bolt right up to stock thirdgen 305 or 350 mounts. The LS1 is a completely new block - it's smaller and stronger, and the mounts are in a different location.
