Check your battery terminals / connections. Pay close attention to the computer ground. I've seen crazy charging problems due to corrotion on battery terminals, and crazy engine problems because of poor comp grounds. once I had a customer complain of something similar... I put her car on the charging system tester. The alt was putting out 18v, at idle. I automatically assumed something was up with the alt, I changed it. And the new alt immediately was putting out 18V. So next I checked bat terminals, a little corrosion but nothing I thought was alarming. I cleaned the terms anyway, wire brush & baking soda/water mix... Fixed the problem And her charging system went back to normal.
