I'm considering pulling out my 3.8 and dropping in a engine from GM Performance (technically I'm buying it from Summit Racing) which is going to be a LS2 but the engine is carborated instead which drops the price on it considerably. What else would I have to change out to make the engine work with the car? I have a 98 Firebird with 114,000 miles on the clock.

Basically everything you would have to swap to do a LS1 swap and then some.

Like what? I'm not exactly sure.

PCM (tune), harness, K member, front springs, swaybar, gauge cluster, tranny (t56 or V8 4L60E), headers (longtubes), stronger rear. I'm sure there are more things I'm forgetting but you'll get the idea.

I dont think you all read correctly... he said hes using the carborated engine.

Start with the standards. The k-members and mounts will be the first things. Next youll have to get some aux gauges. I.E. Tach, oil pressure. Its not like the stock gauges will have a reliable ecu reference anymore, save for the speedo and temp. The stock tach would be out of the question. Just get a after market tach, its so much easier.

Id say the another thing that will give you grief will be the hood clearance. Ive seen those carbed, crate motors before. They have a single plane intake mani with either a 750 or 900 "double-pumper" carb. You'd probably need a hood with a cowl for room. I dont know for sure but there may be some issues with cowl clearance.

Ive never seen a swap personally before so Im just brainstorming. One good thing is that those motors come with an ignition controller. There is no distributor clearance or ecu install to worry about.

Good luck.

I'm not sure if it's a path you've thought about but, i've heard about alot of guys getting the 6.0 litre blocks out of trucks and then put some heads, etc. etc. etc. on them and it's cheaper than buying a crate motor off of summit or whoever else. Plus you'd get the fuel injected part. However, i'm not too sure about the computer and harness adn what all.. If you could find a good guy to do the work and tune it, then i'd say it wouldn't be a huge issue and he could tell you about what you're gettin into more so..
