Year One decided if Pontiac would not bring back the Trans Am, they would do it. In homor of the 30th anniversary of smokey and the Bandit, Year one is making some Trans Am's. They will be built on 77-81 bodies and frames with all new equipment. HID headlights, built in nav system a base 450HP, stage 2 550HP and stage 3 700HP engine, tires go up to 335 wide and brakes go up to 14". Should be amazing.

This is one crazy conversion

read about this a while ago. they look nice but the price tag is a kick in the nutz from what ive heard. A lot of companies love to do these recreations and bring back classics for big bucks. I just read Mr.Norm is doing 1968 Dart GSS (starting at $148k).

They are planning on doing over 100 of these cars though so I imagine with all new parts on hand at their factory and ready to go, it will help cut costs. I am not saying cheap but I am thinking around $40,000

So stunning, in fact, that it went into production in 1976 as the 50th Anniversary Trans Am.

What?

1976 was the Pontaic 50th anniversary. That year they did a special edition TA with the black and gold setup. Over a full year before the release of the Smokey and the Bandit Black and gold car hit the big screen. They were saying the color and style already existed for the S&TB TA.

Now I'm excited. Dad and I were going to trade in the GTO for a new T/A but maybe we should consider doing this...

I'd love to own one, but with a full off-frame restoration brand new parts and LS power I'm thinking ~$80k for one of those...

I was on LS1tech and someone said the price was 140k. Seems to much, but you never know.

I'm just hoping that some of the parts that are going into these will not be limited to just the cars being made. Specifically the headlights and taillights. Since I am in the process of rebuilding my '81 with a '78 front clip, those headlights and possibly taillights would be perfect for it. Mainly because I like to be able to see the road ahead of me and not just barely see it as well as having some brighter tail lights would be nice also.

I think 40-45K still for the series one setup, series 2 could be closer to 70 and I imagine stage 3 be around 100K. If they build 100 or so of these cars and want $80,000 or more then they will sit on them for a long time. A buddy of mine can get parts for a little over cost and he says the LS engine is $4,000 the Breaks, $1700 Projectors $1000 nav system $1800 Salvage/junkyard car $1500. $3000 paint/pinstripe job, Tranny 5 speed or auto 4 speed 2500 tops ,misc parts, fit and finish $8000 new interior $3500, exhaust $1200 So it will be about a 30,000 build up with other parts and options I am sure to be off on but that should be along the lines of the full cost of the stage one car. You have to remember their build staff is Salary paid not hourly like a shop you would take a car to. So they don't make the mint that it would take to have this done on an hour by hour rate. so if they sell it for $45,000 I am sure they are making 15-18,000 per stage one cars. Now I have no idea the actual cost of the car but They can't ask too much or they will just sit on them.
