Well i've been having an extremly hard time finding a Camaro Z28 that has low miles and a 6 speed tranny for $10k. All the ones within 300 miles of me have very very low miles but their all automatic. So, I started thinking, maybe I should get an engine and tranny swap done?

Is there anyway I could get my hands on a new Ls1 engine and tranny? And if so how much would that run me along with it all getting installed by a shop approx? I know i'll need a few other parts but those aren't too important right now.

...Or how much do you think a low mile Ls1 and tranny would be + installation? Maybe I should just get one rebuilt? Ahh idk.

-Much thanks.

Might want to try the Conversions section, lots of info there :)

nope there is no way to get a new LS1 and tranny. it is 100% impossible.

Good luck finding a shop willing to do a swap like that. It's a hell of a lot of work

Figure $2k for engine and trans, and another $2K or so for the other stuff you need, and then...a few months of work if you're doing it yourself.

Like I said...good luck finding a shop willing to touch a job like that.

a new LS1 and a new T56 is going to run you a LOT of you mean brand spanking new.

a new crate LS1 > $5000, then there is freight... assume 5500-6000 minimum
a new T56 around $2000

so that's minimum $7000 in parts before you even have a PCM, wiring, fuel lines, clutch stuff, k member, gauge cluster, exhaust, intake, etc.

wait until the new camaro comes out and then get a low mileage LS1 on the cheap. they are severely overvalued right now because you can't get anything else.

Yeah, conversions eat up alot of time and money. It would just be cheaper and more sensible to get a Z28 that you like.

It's a full weekend job for people with experience...

I'll have to call around and see if any shops will do it. Thanks guys. Yeah low mileage Ls1 is what i'll aim for. As long as it will be under $5k I should be good.

Under 5k will be cutting it close. I personally don't think you'll get it with a shop. Good luck though.

I also recall that you're like 16...350hp in a car is a coffin for a 16 year old

For a 5 grand conversion job you could easily get your car quicker than an LS1.
It'd also be a LOT safer, because while you're building it up you are driving the car at each stage of power increase and getting used to it.

Jumping from 180ish rwhp to 300rwhp is asking to die

just put in a 383 storker motor or 455bb or something alot easier and cheaper.

d00d because it's so much easier to drop in a motor that doesn't even begin to fit in our cars and requires serious modification to most the the engine pay.

Broaden your search. I had to drive my v6 cars halfway back across the country both times. But I got a steal both times, even including airfare one way, gas and the weekend it took me to drive it.

Conversions are for the love of conversions, not for cost efficiency. In my opinion, if the factory made one similar to what you want, just buy it that way from someone. Only put in the time effort and budget when no one built it that way to begin with.

Just my perspective.

Well to my luck last night a found a Z28 5 minutes away from my house.

I'm going to see how much I could trade in my car towards the Z28. Leather seats and power everything. T-tops too and an alarm system, me like.

Wow that's a lot of miles. Good luck with that.

Well it's not as bad as my current 110k.

Have you checked out insurance on being 16 and having an LS1?
Will they even allow you to drive it under their policy?

Well a lot of LS1's start to crap out around 100K miles unless they've been well maintained. 110K miles on a v6 is nothing anyway. :P

Word. Dude just save your money, have fun with your v6, go to school and then get a corvette, thats my plan...

BTW that looks more like the hugger orange then red. Probably my favorite color.

Yeah my dad's gunna pay for it but it won't be too bad. Idk he got into an accident a few weeks ago so i'm not sure how my rates are going to look like. But my first car had to be a v6, and since i've had the car for more than a year without any tickets or accidents then I guess i've "proved" to him I am a responsiable driver. It took me a little time to talk him into the v8 but it's all good.

Idk if I would even do anything to the Z28 too, I might just decide to keep it stock or just a few handling/lights bolt ons.

My dad wouldn't care if I got a z28, as long as I paid for it... you're pretty lucky there
