That doesn't require getting a new transmission? I'm getting a brand new tranny from performabuilt, so I don't feel like replacing it a few years because my "new" engine won't bolt up.:umm:

I'm asking mainly out of curiosity right now, still deciding on the direction I'm going to take with my car.

are you talking V6, V8, V12, W16, weed eater, wankel, turbine, rocket...

anything can theoretically be swapped in but as far as using your existing bellhousing, you are limited to another 3800 SII.

So no other engine will bolt up to our transmission, except another 3800 sII?

no other engine i know of will bolt up to your 4L60e.

if you decide to swap something in with more power you would probably want to lose the 4L60e anyway. i am not at all impressed with the lifespan of "built" ones behind LSx cars.

I won't be doing this swap for a few years anyway. I was thinking because of the price LT1s/LS1s are going for, I'd get an L98 and do a build up with that motor.:woot:

You can totally go for the L98 but like rally said it would be wise to get a better tranny to go with it.

i really don't think a retrofit to an antiquated engine (and potentially entire drivetrain) is a good decision either, unless you don't care about street legality... so let's assume you are going for a full race setup.

even then there are WAY better choices than an L98.

if you are building the whole thing, buy a trashed LS1. they are not that expensive.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GM_bellhousing_patterns

This pattern has a distinctive odd-sided hexagonal shape.

* GM 60° V6 family FWD/RWD V6; 2.8/3.1/3.4 L
* Buick FWD/RWD 90° 3800 V6
* Cadillac 4.1/4.5/4.9 L V8
* Isuzu 3.5L DOHC V6
* 1984-03 Jeep/AMC/Chrysler 2.5L/150 in³ I4 found in Jeep Cherokee, Wagoneer, Comanche, and Wrangler models (except Grand Wagoneer & Grand Cherokee) and 1996-2002 Dodge Dakotas.
* Jeep/AMC 2.8L V6 (GM engine)
* GM Iron Duke FWD inline 4
* 1984-93 GM Iron Duke/Tech-4 RWD inline 4

Are you guys sure? a 4.9 Cadillac motor probably makes more power than a 3.8.

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_V8_engine#Aluminum_OHV

Never mind, they're just as gutless as our motors :lol:

A V8 tranny, or our tranny?

If you put a northstar in your camaro, I will ban you myself.
