i checked out this car w/ my dad this morning. no one was at the lot so we didn't get a chance to talk to anyone and i wasn't able to test drive it or anything. ideally this is the car i want, black, 6spd, t-tops, and leather. however the car has obviously been repainted and the front bumper just didn't seem to line up quite right. assuming the car ran fine, this stuff wouldn't really bother me too much. my dad isn't too crazy about the mileage or the repainting of the car. is it worth looking into even further or should i just keep looking for something else?

no-one can call this one without having the car checked over THUROUGLY! I've walked away from cars with 20k miles that I was sure I wanted when I saw the ad.

I'd make him come down off the price...point out the defects and the 100,000+ miles.

And, tell him you want a Z28 with a 5 speed like the ad says, or drop the price $1,000. :secret:

Keep looking for something else. Repainted means accident. You'll never know how bad. Frame could be bent. Who knows. Always buy cars with mint body condition. Mechanicals you can rebuild and most likely will as you mod anyway. I got my car with bad rotors and bad stereo wiring. I didn't care as those were the first things on my list to upgrade anyway. Good paint job is very expensive and you don't want to be riding in a car that looks like ass. Miles are too high. Mine is almost at 100K, but it's been running great since I got it at 72K. I'll probably get a built engine in the future so I'm not to worried. Plus soon hopefully I'll have another daily.

With those miles you're looking at a ton of possible maintenance. Always assume the previous owner didn't do anything. So you'll need shocks/springs, brakes, flush all the fluids, plugs/wires, filters, clutch could be in bad shape by now, etc.

repaint does not mean it's been in an accident. I'd like to repaint mine. no accidents here.

Not always, but most of the time. Only people who repaint due to minor things like rock chips are enthusiasts like us. Regular people would most likely not repaint unless it was crucial. Regular people don't like to spend a ton of money on a car for repairs so they drive till something breaks.

Dom, are you saying we're not regular people? :tear:

Repainted doesn't always mean an accident. Mine has been repainted 3 or 4 times. I'm saving upnow to pain it. Drives great.

I would walk away from that deal. High miles mostly. You can probably find a car the same age wit less miles and maybe a cheaper price.

i prob will walk away, i'm just having trouble finding ls1's here that are reasonable. i drove by a black camaro ss, a4, hardtop w/ chrome 18'' z06 and corsa exhaust going for $16k.

Why would you spend the money on a car that was repainted/didnt match and parts werent aligned right?

I guess im just to pickey

even though its an ls1, that is still too expensive for a 99 camaro with 100k.. keep looking
