I put this in here because I couldnt find a forum for this specifically and since its going to be used in a turbo application I just went ahead and put it in here.

Should I go with the Intense Racing forged 3800 engine block thats guaranteed to be able to handle 700 rwhp or should I just build my own with the block that I have?

The Intense Racing Block is $3,999.

To build my own would cost $2,100 in parts, and $700 in labor plus about $700 to balance it all and then there would be no guarantees at all. Plus it would have my car down for a few weeks.

Just wondering what your thoughts were.

Depends on the boost levels you want I guess, I would stick with the stock block, crank, and rods. Upgrade the pistons and then spend the extra money on a better valvetrain and cylinder head work so that you can use your turbo to the maximum benefit.

For $4000 you could buy a GMPP's aluminum block then you could upgrade to SBC components; that's a lot of money though. I was playing with the same idea and I've decided to stick with the stock block for now and just get a single turbo/intercooler system fabbed up. Then I can concentrate my money and efforts into a full blown twin-turbo/twin intercooler system with an aluminum block so that I can really increase my displacement and off turbo power and I'm thinking about possibly making a twin TB intake manifold as well.

I am sure Abbott could build you a motor better than that Intense motor. Talk to Lance and see what he can do for you. :D

Lance already owes me some racing heads/intake and a turbo cam! I havent gotten to talk with him here lately though. Im interested if he could beat their price and give me an equal or better warranty.

their website says 90 day warrenty not that they say it will hold 700 hp

and also im sure they will not cover the warrenty if you use a power adder. MTI and all the v8 shops will warrenty a n/a motor but there are to many things that can go wrong in a turbo, nitrous car

if they say they will make sure you get it in writing, if you have not heard lots of people have had problems with intense and their products latly.

Thanks for the heads up with Intense. Maybe I would be better off to just build it myself. Getting the parts arent really a concern. What gets me is this whole balancing the engine deal. That could be time consuming. :( I have the money...I dont have the time.

I have no doubts we can build serious HP with a 3.8. If we built the motor, it would not have a warranty; however if there was a problem that was obviously our fault, we'll cover that. At the moment, Kevin's timeframe is a little short for us to be able to get a motor built even though we'd love to build him and everyone else one!

Lance, the forged engine block would be on a little different schedule than the heads/intake/turbo cam. The forged engine block wouldnt be needed until after I return home permanently from Iraq. That would be around October of this year! That should be plenty of time for that. The heads etc I will need by June before I come home on vacation and weve already agreed to that.

Theres no way the forged engine and built tranny could be installed while Im on vacation time. Thats all going to have to wait until I come home to stay.

I will drop you an email concerning this again soon! I will have to decide whether to go with you on the engine by how things go with the heads/intake/cam. No pressure!

I have the INTENSE Race Ready Block and I will be using it this racing season. The only reason I bought it was because I got a good deal and it had the specs. I wanted already. ;)

What do you think about the block and how much did you pay for it in total?

If you're looking at upgraded rods, have you considered the L32 rods (Series III, not 3.4L)?
