Just in case you guys missed it or don't frequent Clubgp. My Dad has been working on putting an LS1 into his Grand Prix for a while now and thanks to Loyde @ Fast Fiero's of Dallas has completed his project.
He'll be looking at adding around 10psi here soon as well.

so then, is it still fwd or did he switch it to rwd as well? and if he ever takes it up, Id like to see some 1/4 mile times.
The motor is sideways, so I'm guessing he's FWD. ;)

I'm just going to guess the Gettraq since thats the one most of them mount in the fieros it wouldn't be much of a twist to add in active FWD axles

It's a fully built Dynotech 4t65e. The Getrag wouldn't be able to hold up with the weight of a GP.

while I think it's cool I saw it cross posted on other forums, which are 90% V8, and they failed to understand the coolness of it.

the rack isn't bad at all on those cars. Go ahead and mess with a rack on a bmw x5 or a 745 the subframe is coming down. the rack on the gto is right there easy to get too.

question..did he save the AC?
The swap itself just goes to prove how small of an engine the LS1 actually is. That's the beauty of pushrod engines though my friends. Compare an LS1 to the shear size and weight of a DOHC 4.6 modular V8 from Ford, and prepared to be amazed and the difference cam configurations can make between 5.7 liters and 4.6. Weighing only 50 lbs. more than a L67, they're aren't going to notice any handling loss from the added weight. If anything, the car might launch better just for having the added weight in the correct place.
but I have seen DOHC V8's which actually take up no more room than an LS1 (ie anything from toyota).

we actually just had this discussion on LS1GTO.com
basically we all agreed that the Mod Motors aren't a step forward at all, and they really need to just go with more cubes instead of screwing around w/ more valves.
and besides a ford that NEEDS forced induction & 24 and 32 valves just to compete with the 16v LSx series GM motors and 16v Hemi series DCx motors is well, lame.
whats better? smaller cubes and DOHC that create a packed engine bay, that makes working on it a chore, or more cubes, OHV, and a very spacey engine bay?
even packaging with, OHV makes sense.

actually the 4.6 in a friend of mines Cobra is a 2v (2valve per cylinder). But like I said I've seen some damn impressive V8 DOHC's check out a Lexus SC400 with their 4.3. Not sure what kind of aftermarket they have but damn the thing is no bigger than an LSx motor. Ford just likes things REALLY BIG for some reason.
Btw the aforementioned cobra las dyno'd at 512hp/520tq, but does catch squat worth of traction with out a full tank of gass and 2 people in the car. It was recently beat by a 3rd gen with an LT1/LT4. Love the sound of the bitch though.. makes me want a slaughterhouse supercharger every day:D
and changing cams on a Modular motor isn't all that bad. If you know what your digging into it can be done in a couple hours. however the valve springs..be prepared to bitch, and grip and slap a bitch for wanting to change them.:dammit:
SOHC is the direction I would LOVE for GM to try with a V8

24v - current 4.6
32v - machs & slobras.

Actually I recall the 98 cobra (which is the last cobra of the SN95 style) is DOHC. I could be wrong but I don't think I am.
