Torque converter lock up

ok i have a 1993 achieva and after driving it for a while the torque converter seems to be locking up and not unlocking when u get to a lower speed it it starts to shake and bucks and make funky rubbing/grinding noises then in stalls when u stop and if u start it and try to go it just stalls again, after it sits for about 30 mins it goes again. any ideas how to fix/determine exactly what is cause it. also do these what gears to the torque converter lock up in, is it only 4th if so i can just put it in 3rd manually and drive it like that so it never locks i dont need highway driving anyway. lemme know what someone thinks

prob a bad tcc solenoid, and it will lock up in 3rd and 4th usually with mild cruising speed, but nothing with more than about 40% throttle
